Little Laptop Sleeve

Written by , Posted in Back To School, halloween, iPad sleeve

My daughter, as part of a high school academic program, received a Chrome Book to use and keep for the school year. She was pretty excited about 1. having her own little computer and 2. a computer which isn’t a Mac, iPad or iPhone. Being that we are a Apple products kind of family, there are a lot of programs etc. we can’t access using our Mac. It’s never really bothered me but it seems the school based programs tend to be accessed better by a Windows based operating system.
Being that Rylee is only ‘borrowing’ the cute, little laptop for the school year, she asked if I could make her a sleeve to protect the laptop. Of course, I obliged. I asked her to select fabrics and she picked one that I worked with a lot last year, ‘The Ghastlies’ Collection. How she ever remembered this collection, I don’t quite understand as I have stored the collection in a ‘seasonal fabrics’ bin which isn’t even visible in my studio. I did suggest other fabrics but she was pretty set on the ‘The Ghastlies’. I have to admit they are cute but thought ‘Botanics’ by Carolyn Friedlander or ‘Sun Print’ by Alison Glass would have been a great choice also.

In the original version, I have made little handles so that she could easily pull the sleeve from her back pack but apparently, the handles made it look ‘babyish’ and she said she would not use them. Thus, this morning, I took it apart and removed the handles (which I thought were really cute but I am not in Grade 9 right!)
There was a time when Rylee wasn’t interested in any of my sewing creations. Now, she is asking for pencil cases, sleeves and quilts. I don’t know what has changed but I’m definitely loving it and not going to question why the change in interest 🙂
Hope you are having a fabulous weekend and thanks for stoppin’ by!

The First of the ‘Sweet Nothing’ Gifts

Written by , Posted in iPad sleeve, Just another day...

About two weeks ago, my dear son asked if we could do a gift exchange once a month. He advised the gift would have to be handmade or really inexpensive. I explained the concept of ‘sweet nothing’ gifts and he thought the name was perfect. Although Gabe said we should do the exchange at the beginning of every month, I modified the agreement and asked if we could just give a ‘sweet nothing’ gift once a month, no fixed date, just exchange whenever we had a gift ready. He agreed at the time but of course, when February 1 rolled around, he kept asking me when we were exchanging gifts. Being in-between projects, I decided to create his gift before tackling any other projects.
So Gabe likes to write. He writes on any type of paper. He writes in a journal. Sometimes he draws in his journal. He prefers to use pencils, not pens or markers. Most notes to me are usually ‘letters of persuasion’ requesting either he stay home from school and the reasons why he should or if there is some item he is wanting, he will write about why he should have that item. Other notes are simple but heart warming love notes. So as far as what he has learned at school, he obviously focused in the ‘letters of persuasion’ lessons. I receive at least three or four notes or letters a week and yes, I save most of them.

He also writes in this journal. This is the second journal as he completely filled his first journal which was a dollar store type journal. We had agreed that if he completed his first journal, he would be able to pick a ‘fancy’ journal from Chapters which he had his eye on for some time.

I knew as soon as we created this ‘sweet nothing’ gift exchange event I would make him an Idea Pouch for his journal, notes and pencils.

The Idea Pouch, which I usually create for storing iPads or tablets, worked perfectly and the journal fit perfectly.
This was his ‘sweet nothing’ gift to me…

I watched him as he drew the artwork via a ‘How To Draw’ YouTube video. It was so sweet watching him pause and draw, pause and draw. He had asked if I had specific pencils but not being a pencil artist by any stretch of the imagination, I did not have any proper drawing pencils or markers so he used what we had. I may be biased but I think he created a masterpiece!

I have made quite a few of the Idea Pouches, small and larger versions. I had not thought to use them to store notebooks so it’s nice to know the pouches have multiple uses. I have many available here in my shop.

Considering February is a shorter month, I better start thinking about next months ‘sweet nothing’ gift for Gabe 🙂
Hope you have a fabulous day and thanks for stoppin’ by!

Another brand new year…

Written by , Posted in handmade, iPad sleeve, Just another day...

and we are off to a good start!

Hope you had a fabulous season filled with as much fun as I did. We played, relaxed, shopped and entertained to the point we don’t want the holiday season to end but of course, tomorrow, the kidlets are back in school so we are all back on routine schedules 🙁

I don’t set resolutions for the upcoming year but I do set goals. This year, I am determined to start and finish projects which have been calling my name for years.

In February, it will be 7 years we have lived in this house and thus it will be 7 years our kitchen curtain rod has remained in place yet lacking any covering.

It’s a horrible image but I am sure you get the idea.
I also purchased an arm chair at a thrift store at least four years ago which has simply been adorned with a crocheted blanket awaiting a slipcover. I have images in my head of how I want this chair to turn out and I have all the elements required to execute the creation of the slipcover. It’s simply a matter of remembering to do it!

So now that I have my ‘goals’ in writing, I am hoping it will make the task more enticing to complete.
In terms of Gabry Road, I have to date already maintained my goal of creating something new everyday. I had thought I would hold off and take a break until after the kidlets returned to school but my fingers were itchin’ to create so why not!
Here are some of the brand new items in my Etsy boutique!

I have so many more ideas to work on but progress has been good so far.
I also plan on being a better blogger but not going to make too many promises. I seem to have blog post ideas when I am not remotely close to a place where I can blog and then of course, by the time I get back to my computer, I have forgotten. So perhaps I should start listing/writing down blog ideas. Ok, I just created another goal for the year! 🙂
Hope you have a fabulous day and thanks for stoppin’ by!
