I began this quilt in 2004. I was eight months pregnant carrying my son and living in Yellowknife, NWT. I remember copying the hexagons and hubby spending the evening cutting them out for me. For months and months, I toted this little pink case carrying all the hexies and wherever and whenever I could, I would baste. Ok, so I didn’t work on this quilt for the total of the last eight years. For months the little pink case would sit and collect dust, but for the last year, I really put a push on to finish it so that I could start a new quilt.
And now we have a hand quilted lap quilt for the family room. Dear son has been asking if it is ‘his quilt’ and really it should be considering he has been the one to continually ask me when it would be finished and when he could use it. My daughter likes it enough but being that her favourite colour is bright royal blue, the subdued tones in this quilt doesn’t do much for her.
I noticed errors in the hand quilting where some of my stitches should have been tighter but really, I think the quilt did quite well for having to be shoved in and out of a little tote off and on for the last eight years. Eventually I will re-stitch the areas which show loose stitching but for now, we will just enjoy this quilt.
More exciting than finishing this quilt is starting another. I have already started cutting larger hexagons for the next quilt. Hoping this next one won’t take as long to complete though 🙂
Thanks so stoppin’ by!
