My baby girl, the one who made me a mother, turned twelve years old today. She is truly magnificent and I couldn’t have wished for anything better as she is all that and more. She’s funny, creative, compassionate and best of all, she is a great friend. Baby years are nice but I so love being able to hold conversations, going for coffee or just hanging around with my princess. A wise woman once told me that children get better with age and I truly believe this as each year which passes, Rylee is evolving into a spectacular person.
Rylee has watched me endlessly create ‘things’ for other people. Occasionally, she will ask if I can make her whatever I am currently working on. But like the shoemaker’s son who goes barefoot, I never had the time to create for ‘us’. This year, I made the time and although for two months she truly believed the quilt was for a neighbours daughter, I made her a quilt.
The quilt is sized for a double-bed, even though she is sleeping in a twin bed. She likes to smother herself with blankets so I knew the quilt had to be large.
As you can see, dear brother needed to be in the pic also, albeit as a horrid photo bomber 🙂
On Instagram, I complained and whined I would never embroider again. It’s not because of what you can see via the image. It’s what behind the label. I don’t have a lot of experience in embroidery but I have heard that the back of the embroidery piece should resemble the actual image/embroidery piece but mine was so messed up it looked like someone had chewed up pieces of floss and spit them out onto a piece of muslin!!! Wasn’t a pretty site so I have sparred you from the image 🙂
Much to Rylee’s dismay, Gabe had to test the quilt. He isn’t ‘allowed’ in her room so this was quite the accomplishment for Gabe. That is, getting away with it long enough for a pic to be taken!
The pattern used in the quilt is called ‘Simply Irresistible‘ and it was super easy. My goal is to start working on quilts which require a bit more fussy or fancy cutting. Before that though, I want to make a quilt for Gabe. For whatever reason, he really wants one also and he has a birthday arriving in December. Keeping the shoppe stocked for Christmas and making his quilt will be a challenge but I am going to try. I have already chosen the fabrics for his quilt but haven’t found the ‘right’ pattern yet.
Will let you know when I do but in the meantime, thanks so much for stoppin’ by and hope you have a fabulous day!
